How to read a tyre’s markings

The sidewall markings of a tyre such as the g-Grip above contain the following important information:


>  Section width
>  Aspect ratio
>  Structure
>  Rim diameter
>  Load index
>  Speed symbol

 

For example, a tyre marked 195/55 R 15 91H means:
 
195  Nominal tyre section width (mm)
55   Tyre aspect ratio (%)

       ratio of the sidewall height to the section width
R     Structure Radial construction
15   Nominal rim diameter in inches
91   Load index – indicates the maximum load capacity
       (615kg in this case)
   Speed symbol – indicates the maximum authorised speed.
      (131mph in this case)
